Thursday 2 April 2009

On Thursday 26th March 2009, two volunteers hosted an event for the mutual benefit of UBS [ www.u-b-s.org.uk ] and the small charity, Building Schools for Africa [ www.schoolsforafrica.co.uk ]in order to split the proceeds 50/50.

It was a music event held at the Tooting Tram and Social Club in South West London,
which proved to be a brilliant bar and music venue and kindly gave us the venue free of charge.

The event had a difference…. Live music in which the audience could participate!

The band Rockaoke [ http://www.rockaoke.co.uk/ ], fronted by a close friend of UBS and who have a residency in Punk nightclub in Soho, provided the music. As with all the band's gigs, members of the crowd were encouraged to choose their favourite song and take the mic as the lead singer! For those who do not enjoy the limelight, they could simply stand back, enjoy a few drinks and a brilliant gig.

The event was a storming success with a capacity crowd, a full set of happy winners of the raffle that was supported by some fantastic donated prizes for which we were so grateful and the evening raised a total profit of more than £2,700... A great result.

Two great causes helped and a top night in the process, thanks to everyone involved.
